WAYNE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

An autistic Wayne County man charged in the rape and murder of a little girl was back in court on Friday.

Jerrod Metsker, 24, waived his right to a speedy trial in death of Reann Murphy, 9. Metsker's bond will remain at $1M.

Metsker's next court date will be in March to allow for discovery. That date has not yet been set.

According to the Wayne County Coroner, little Reann was strangled with an, as of yet, undetermined object.

She was last seen playing outside the shared area within Smithville mobile home park on December 14. 19 Action News has learned Metsker often played with the children who lived in the mobile home park. The afternoon of Reann's disappearance, a group was building a snowman. Other children went inside to warm up, leaving Metsker and Reann alone.

The child's body was discovered in a trash dumpster near her home hours later.

Metsker, a neighbor and friend to the Murphy family, took part in the frantic search. At one point telling a searcher that he had already searched the dumpster where the little girl's body was later found.
