Thousands of 'Coats for Kids' distributed

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -
Just in time for the cold front headed our way: Thousands of coats were handed out today as Coats for Kids were distributed to families to help them stay warmer this winter.

"With this Louisiana weather they wear light coats and they are just basically looking for warmer coats," says Clint Lee.

Clint Lee brought his 3 kids to the Porter's Cleaners location on Benton Road.

"They all have their different styles, and they all want something different. So patience is the main thing," says Lee.

It took just a couple of minutes for Lee's 10 year old daughter to find the perfect coat for her.

"It's simple but it is the community giving to the community and that is why we like to be a part of this program," says Mark Porter with Porter's Cleaners.

Close to 4,000 coats were donated from the community. Porter's Cleaners repairs and cleans the coats before the big distribution day.

Back in December, teachers were given the chance to pick up coats for students in need at local schools.

Porter's Cleaners, Goodwill Industries, and KSLA News 12 are all official sponsors of the Coats for Kids Program.
