LOS ALTOS, Calif., Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Two organizations focused on improving the quality of life for California residents – BUILD and The Shanti Project – will receive support from Branders.com as part of the company's "Give a Way" Campaign.
Branders.com launched the "Give a Way" campaign as part of #GivingTuesday. The campaign is focused on helping 12 emerging, non-profit organizations in the education and healthcare sector tell their story.
BUILD (http://www.build.org), which was founded in 1999, uses entrepreneurship to excite and propel disengaged, under-served students through high school to college and career success. The organization offers a four-year high school program that provides a unique blend of entrepreneurship, academics and personal support to motivate students who are otherwise at high risk of failing classes and dropping out of high school.
In the US, half a million students drop out of high school every year; BUILD and Branders.com share the common goal of eradicating the dropout crisis in America. "BUILD has a transformational impact on students and empowers them to succeed in school and their careers," says BUILD founder and CEO, Suzanne McKechnie Klahr. "We are proud that 99 percent of BUILD seniors have graduated high school and 94 percent have been accepted into college."
Founded in 1974 by Dr. Charles Garfield, The Shanti Project (http://www.shanti.org) enhances the quality of life, health and well being of people living with life-threatening illnesses, including breast cancer and HIV/AIDS, by providing compassionate practical and emotional support to more than 2,000 clients each year. The Shanti Project currently engages nearly 400 volunteers, who provided more than 14,000 hours of service in the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
"We're honored to partner with Branders.com's 'Give a Way' campaign," says Kaushik Roy, Shanti's executive director. "Together, we can raise greater awareness of the vital services we provide for underserved individuals facing a life-threatening illness."
Branders.com will announce subsequent "Give a Way" partners each month through May 2014. For more information visit http://blog.branders.com/.
