Brutal cold hinders Cleveland firefighters at east side blaze

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Four Cleveland firefighters were injured fighting a house fire in the frigid cold early Tuesday morning.

Flames broke out around 4 a.m. at a two-story house in the 1400 block of East 45th Street.

Firefighters say all the equipment was freezing over and their masks were freezing to their faces.

Two firefighters were treated for exposure to the cold, one was injured when a ceiling fell on him and the four was injured after slipping on the ice.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
