911 calls show how frigid cold attacks people in everyday situations

CLEVELAND, OH -

911 calls for Cleveland paramedics show how quickly this frigid cold weather can turn dangerous.

"We've received recordings of calls for ambulances from people stranded in cars, a woman locked out of her home, and even strangers concerned about others," said one paramedic.

In one case, a worker at a KFC restaurant called for paramedics to help a mother who walked in with a child, her hands freezing, and a story about having no heat.

In another case, a neighbor called to help an 80-year old man outside with his hands turning white from the cold.

And on East 68th, a distraught woman called 911 for an ambulance after finding a man's body outside a home. He was dead, and investigators will determine if the cold was a factor.

But in many of the cases, everyday situations can turn critical in minutes.
