Cavs looking to 'bond' on trip

Posted: Updated:

This West Coast trip couldn't come at a better time for the Cavaliers. Four of the five teams they'll face, starting with the Utah Jazz on Friday, are far from being a serious contender. More than that, five games in eight nights give the Cavs a chance to bond with the newest member of their team, Luol Deng. The two-time All-Star small forward came over from the Chicago Bulls in the Andrew Bynum deal earlier in the week.

"It's great for him to get to know us, soon and better, and for us to get to know him", head coach Mike Brown said, before the Cavs headed to the airport.

"I definitely feel like it has that sort of importance", Kyrie Irving said. "I wouldn't say make or break, it's still a long season. But it is an important road trip for us, like I said, for our identity, and for our record."

It also gives the Cavaliers a chance to gain some ground in the lowly Eastern Conference. As of Friday morning, only three teams in the conference were above .500. The Cavs, at 12-23, were just two games out of a playoff spot.

"We need to win some games", Brown said, acknowledging that other teams are due to start heating up.

If the Cavs are going to keep up, or even push ahead, this is the time to do it.
