CLARIDON TWP, OH (WOIO) -

Speed and alcohol are suspected as factors in a late Tuesday night crash in Geauga County.

It happened just before midnight on Chardon Windsor Road just east of Claridon Troy Road in Claridon Township.

19 Action News has learned the driver, identified as Brennan J. Martens, 21, lost control crossing over the centerline. The Chardon man drove off the left side of the roadway, struck a traffic sign and a tree. His vehicle then turned onto its side.

Martens was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by mechanical means. He was life-flighted to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown. No word on his condition at this time.

An investigation is underway.
