CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A Cleveland dog owner who moved and left her dog chained up outside in the summertime heat for months, pled no contest in court Wednesday afternoon.

The dog, Artemis, was emaciated and had two broken bones when rescued by Badges for Bullies. She was treated for pneumonia following her stay at Cleveland Animal Control. Several weeks later, Artemis was diagnosed with cancer, and lived out her remaining days in a loving foster home.

Artemis' owner, Tamara Johnson, is charged with animal cruelty, animal neglect and animal abuse.

Johnson will be sentenced on Jan. 29.

This is the first time in Cleveland Municipal Court history that an animal abandonment case went to trial.
