Euclid school prepares to close and merge with another

Posted: Updated:
EUCLID, OH (WOIO) -

In June of 2014, St. John of the Cross Parish will close its school and enter into a partnership with Ss. Robert & William Parish to support one school, commencing in the 2014-2015 school year.

The school will be located at the current Ss. Robert & William site, 351 East 260th St., Euclid, and will now serve both parishes. Declining enrollment at SJOC has been cited as the reason for this new endeavor. In general, Catholic school enrollment throughout the country has been on the decline and, in Euclid, it is no exception.

A leadership team has been formed to oversee the transition and future of the school. It is comprised of Fr. Sal Ruggeri (Pastor SJOC), Fr. John Betters (Pastor SRW), Mrs. Martha Dodd (Current Principal of SJOC) and Ms. Meg Cosgriff (Current Principal of SRW).

According to Fr. John D. Betters, Pastor of SRW, the partnership is welcomed. "Fr. Ruggeri (Pastor of SJOC) and I agree that it is of utmost importance to offer quality, Catholic education, and we feel that we can best accomplish this by pooling our resources," he states. He continues, "Bishop Richard Lennon has given us his blessing on the partnership and has asked us to first, and foremost, see that excellent Catholic education is available to children in the community; furthermore, he acknowledged that this arrangement seemed to be what is best for those in both parish communities."

For additional information regarding this partnership or enrollment information, please contact Fr. Sal Ruggeri at 216.289.0770 or Fr. John Betters at 216.731.1515.
