ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) -

Portage County Sheriff David Doak confirms that the body found inside a Portage County apartment has been positively identified as a man who went missing on December 31.

22-year-old Justin Earley of Alliance was last seen leaving a home in Canton on December 30 on his way to Kent.

After a missing persons report was filed the next day, officers began their investigation which included obtaining subpoena information for phone and email records, as well as subpoena information for a Craigslist ad.

Detectives were led straight to a 34-year-old man named John Fox.

Officers presented Fox with a search warrant and who was taken into custody after Earley's body was located inside the apartment.

Police believe that Earley may have been killed at the apartment before the missing persons report was filed.

Authorities report that Fox is a convicted felon of violent crimes and is also a registered sex offender.
