Cuyahoga County Council to discuss sin tax renewal

Posted: Updated:
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Tuesday afternoon, the Cuyahoga County Council will discuss whether to push forward a 20-year renewal for the sin tax.

Representatives from Cleveland's corporate community, the Indians, Cavaliers and Browns will try to explain why the council should put the issue on May ballot.

Money raised from the sale of alcohol and cigarettes helped build Cleveland's professional sports stadiums. The proposal would help cover maintenance costs.

Voters approved the original sin tax in 1990.
