ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) -

The entire community of Elyria is coming together to make sure no one is left out in the cold.

The city, the hospital, the American Red Cross, St. Mary's Parish and local businesses will be providing shelter, food and drinks, and blankets for anyone who otherwise would have to brace the dangerous, arctic-like conditions.

This includes the homeless, anyone with little or no heat, or any individual with a broken furnace or water pipes.

The mercury is expected to dip to dangerously low temperatures Sunday night.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. on January 26, the St. Mary's Parish Hall (between 3rd and 4th street) will open.

Organizers say they'll keep the hall transformed into a shelter for as long as needed which is projected to be Wednesday, January 29.

The Elyria Health and Fire Departments will be on hand as well as volunteers from Elyria Medical Center

"On behalf of the City and those we serve, I would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to everyone who is working so very hard to keep all of our residents safe and warm during this very difficult winter," said Mayor Holly Brinda.

You can bring your dog, cat or other domestic pet only if they are caged.
