Authorities have released new details into the murder investigation of Nicholas Mathew.

Last week, John Jackson, Jr. was arrested and charged in the case.

Police records show the two had communicated before Mathew was found dead last month.

Records show Mathew picked up Jackson and took him back to his apartment just before midnight on December 22. Police believe Mathew was stabbed multiple times in his bed.

Police say surveillance video shows Jackson left the apartment and went to Walmart to purchase electronics with Mathew's credit card, but the card was declined.

The police affidavit says Jackson then returned to Mathew's apartment and allegedly moved his body into the bath tub where cleaning chemicals were used to try to burn the body.

Police say Jackson has admitted being at Mathew's apartment, stealing items including his car, but denies killing Mathew.

Jackson is due back in court next week.
