CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo continued to cater to the crowds in 2013 marking a 21-year consecutive streak of one million visitors or more.

The highest daily attendance was on August 2nd with close to 14,000 guests.

Big draws include, the return of Dinosaurs!, the birth of a baby giant anteater, and breaking ground on the grand Circle of Wildlife carousel ride and accompanying Nature Discovery Zone.

There are other notable milestones to mark.

2013 was the first full year under the leadership of new Executive Zoo Director Dr. Chris Kuhar

He took over after the retirement of long-running Zoo Director Steve Taylor, and George Owoyesigire, a senior wildlife officer from Uganda was the first recipient of the new Steve H. Taylor Conservation award.

The zoo is also making progress to house and have animals roam energy efficient buildings and grounds.

Most notably, the zoo's African Elephant Crossing received Gold-level certification through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

The zoo is open daily. You can visit between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Through March 31 enjoy discounted winter pricing.

Parking is always free.
