(RNN) - Alabama and coach Nick Saban failed in their quest to win a third BCS National Championship last year, but the Crimson Tide did land the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for the third straight year.
Alabama signed 26 players and a transfer this year that included six, five-star athletes, 15 four-stars and five, three-stars to rank the Tide's class well ahead of second-ranked LSU according to all the college football recruiting websites.
Seven Southeastern Conference schools ranked in the top 10, according to 247sports.com, with Texas A&M standing in fifth place, followed in order by Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. Likewise, seven of the top 10 individual players signed with SEC Schools.
Ohio State finished with the third-ranked class and 2014 BCS champ Florida State ranked third. Notre Dame ranked No. 10.
Bama's half-dozen five star athletes was the most of any school – LSU had four, Texas A&M and Georgia each had three. The Tide's top-ranked player is Myles Garrett, a 6-7, 225 offensive tackle from West Monroe, LA, who is already enrolled.
LSU landed New Orleans star running back Leonard Fournette, the nation's No. 1 ranked prospect. Defensive end Myles Garrett, of Arlington, TX, the second-ranked prospect, went with Texas A&M.
