More layoffs in East Cleveland

Posted: Updated:
EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton tells 19 Action News the city is downsizing. Norton says this is designed to save money and make the city run more efficiently.

"As a need to make our operations a little bit leaner and to promote better programming at the Martin Luther King Center."

A total of seven people are losing their jobs.

Norton says the city is eliminating an executive assistant and a program coordinator within the Parks and Recreation Department.

The Building and Housing Department will merge with the Community Development Office, eliminating three positions.

A city custodian position will be eliminated and a food service aide at the City's Senior Center will lose their job as well.

Some employees like the Housing Inspector and the Inspector's Administrative Assistant will have their hours cut.

The Boy's and Girl's Club will now take over programming at the city's Civic Center.
