PARMA, OH (WOIO) -

Pit bulls are banned in Parma and residents that own the dogs could be fined.

Some people are trying to change the city's rules pertaining to pit bulls but aren't having much luck convincing city officials.

The pit bull ban in Parma dates back to 1986 when an ordinance was adopted, considering pit bulls to be vicious dogs.

City council has no plans to change the policy, but that's not stopping one group from lobbying for change.

A representative from a group called Animal Guardians for a Prosperous Parma has been fighting the city's ordinance.

The city council did listen at a meeting that was held Monday night but nothing is changing at this time.

A spokesperson for city council members said they don't see any reason to change.
