A Valentine's Day staging protest is planned for Ohio's three major metropolitan areas for gay marriage rights A Valentine's Day staging protest is planned for Ohio's three major metropolitan areas for gay marriage rights
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

GetEQUAL plans to stage the demonstrations at marriage counters in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus to mark Valentine's Day 2014.

The demonstrations will be in partnership with Freedom to Marry Ohio.

Despite the fact that the Supreme Court has recently ruled in favor of marriage equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Americans the union is still against Ohio state law for same-sex couples to marry.

"There is a need to take action," says Morgan Bonney, one of the lead organizers for GetEQUAL Ohio. "Marriage equality is a right that everyone deserves and I want nothing more than to have the right to marry my fiancée, to ensure that we are both taken care of in challenging times, and have the ability to live safe and happy lives with one another."

Friday's protests are an effort to illustrate what they believe are harmful effects that Ohio's state ban has on loving and committed couples.

The Valentine's Day event in Cleveland will take place at noon at the marriage counter at the Domestic Relations Court located at One Lakeside Avenue.
