New business intentions for the Buckeye State

New business filings reflect Ohio's business climate. New business filings reflect Ohio's business climate.
COLUMBUS, OH (WOIO) -

Looks like many entrepreneurs are set to invest in the Ohio economy.

Secretary of State Jon Husted announced Feb. 14, 2014 that close to 8,000 new entities filed to do business in Ohio.

The numbers are down slightly compared to January 2013.

The numbers can't provide a complete picture of Ohio's job climate, but are an important indicator of economic activity.

New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity.

Included are for-profit, non-profit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships.

Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
