EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A total of 12 people have been laid off in East Cleveland this month -- that includes two police officers and a firefighter.

A third police officer has resigned, bringing the total number of officers patrolling the city to 46.

Mayor Gary Norton says all these cuts will save the city $1 million.

Additional layoffs include an executive assistant and a program coordinator with the Parks and Recreation Department.

Three people with the Building and Housing Department, a city custodian, a food service aid at the East Cleveland Senior Center and the executive assistant to the mayor also lost their jobs.
