Storms out west bring local threat Friday

Posted: Updated:

Not a whole lot of weather issues out there today, partly to mostly cloudy skies, breezy, with a chance for isolated light showers.  Highs once again reach into the 60s and low 70s, which is well above average for this time of year.  Late tonight and Friday morning a cold front will approach our region, bringing the chance for thunderstorms.  While we are in a slight risk for severe weather, since the line will move through our area at the coolest part of the day, the limited heat won't allow for nearly as much development as would a front passing in mid-afternoon.

What we're expecting is this:  Storms should begin pushing in locally just after midnight, and last through most of the morning.  We can expect pockets of heavy rain and strong wind, accompanied by thunder and frequent lightning.  Occasionally winds could gust up to around 60mph, which could cause some down tree limbs and isolated power outages.  A brief tornado is possible, but is not likely.
