Tremont, OH (WOIO) -

Volunteers called off a search for a muzzled dog at 5 p.m. Sunday after four hours without success.

The large, yellow lab mix was last seen wearing a muzzle.  There is concern the dog is not able to eat, drink or protect itself.

The muzzle has volunteer organizers thinking the dog escaped a dog fighting operation.

Jenifer Bemis organized the search for 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 after seeing a Facebook post, initially posted by Cleveland Police.

The post from Friday, Feb. 21 stated a large, yellow mix was spotted running loose in Tremont without any identification tags.

Bemis is an interior designer from North Ridgeville and told 19 Action News she is just haunted by the fact that this dog is outside lost without any way to eat or drink.

"Please still keep an eye out," Bemis urges. "We're just assuming this animal is very afraid of people. He (or she) probably escaped."

The dog was seen on West 65th and Clark Avenue on Friday.

Eight volunteers searched the neighborhood including representatives from Second Hand Mutts.

If you see this animal please call Animal Control at 216-664-3187.
