CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Parma Police say they were involved in a police chase that started near the intersection of State Road and Brookpark Road in Parma after a traffic stop on Tuesday evening.

The chase began around 9 p.m. when the driver, a 41-year-old Cleveland man, committed a traffic violation in his 1995 GMC Safari.

When officers attempted to pull him over, the driver took off, leading police on a chase all the way to a Burger King parking lot at 2828 Carnegie Ave. in Cleveland.

The suspect attempted to run on foot, but Parma released their two K-9 officers to catch the man. While being taken down, the man punched both K-9's multiple times on their heads.

The driver was taken into custody around 9:25 p.m. He has several bites in his thigh and upper body.

He was taken to Metro Hospital where he was treated and released into Parma Police custody. A search confirmed he had drugs, most likely cocaine.

Neither K-9 Felix or K-9 Tyson appeared to be injured.
