Senate passes bill granting four additional calamity days

COLUMBUS, OH (WOIO) -

The Ohio Senate passed a bill on Wednesday to let schools take four more calamity days this year.

The bill says schools must use their first four contingency days that are built into the district schedules.

It differs from an earlier bill passed by the House last week, that added four more days, requiring two of them to be professional development days for teachers.

The below zero temperatures and snowstorms have forced most schools to use the five currently allowed snow days. Some districts in the area have used double that.

Additional days keep schools from having to extend their year into the summer.
