EAST PRICE HILL, OH (FOX19) -

An 8-year-old has died after he was shot Saturday afternoon in East Price Hill.

Two children and one adult were present in an East Lasalle Avenue home when the boy was shot in the chest, according to authorities.

"We walked in through the front door here that's in to the kitchen area and the child was laying on his back with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was conscious and alert at that time," said Sgt. Jim Perkins.

The boy has been identified as Sammy Lorenzo. He was transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where he underwent surgery, but later died from his injuries.

Lorenzo and his two brothers, nine and ten years old, were visiting their 19-year-old uncle, who lives in the home where the shooting occurred. The children were alone in a bedroom when they found a loaded handgun, according to investigators.

The boys were playing with the gun and a single shot was fired by the victim's brother, which struck Lorenzo in the chest.

No charges have been filed at this time.
