LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Between 50 and 60 jobs at Southern Nevada Health District will be eliminated as part of a budgetary move, the Las Vegas Valley's health authority confirmed Friday.

According to SNHD's Public Information Officer Stephanie Bethel, the organization's Board of Health voted Thursday to approve the layoffs for the 2015 budget year.

It was not known which jobs would be eliminated. SNHD employs 500 to 515 workers currently, according to officials.

Chief health officer Dr. Joseph Iser elaborated, saying jobs that have not been filled in a year were eliminated as part of the move. Unnecessary travel and overtime were also eliminated, according to Iser.

Iser also said the health district is expected to go through the initial process of layoffs within the next two to three weeks.

Touted as one of the largest local public health organizations in the country, SNHD serves 1.7 million residents in the Las Vegas Valley as well as the visitors to the city.
