Survivor's story: Grandmother shot through door speaks out

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A local grandmother is speaking out for the first time after getting shot through her own front door.

Betty Miller, 73, is now back home from the hospital. In January, at her home on Strandhill Road in Cleveland, she heard a knock at the door in the middle of the night. Then, for no clear reason, when she answered, there was gunfire.

"I cracked the door. I saw this young man standing on the steps. I looked at him. He looked at me. When he said 'open the door'. I shut the door and he shot the bullet through the door," Betty Miller said.

Betty's husband saw it all happen. He's grateful to have her home.

"Worst thing I've ever seen in my life," Miller said.

Betty says she's not scared to be back home, but she is more cautious. No one has been arrested for the shooting. Why it happened may never be explained. But to Betty, all that matters is she survived.

"The Lord's on my side. I ain't worried about it," she said.
