Canton: Fire at Lehmillers Trucking Company

Posted: Updated:
CANTON, OH (WOIO) -

The Canton fire department will be out all night fighting a blaze that started at 7:20 p.m. at Lehmillers Trucking Company on Belden Avenue Southeast. The brick building is a 60' by 80' structure.

Acting fire chief Chris Smith describes, "The fire was pretty much through the roof of the structure upon our arrival. Then, shortly after the roof collapsed. When we arrived it was a defense of attack; which means, we don't put anybody inside the building. We fight it from the outside due to safety issues."

At the time the fire started some employees were inside working on a vehicle. They were able to make it outside safely. The Marlboro, City of Canton, Osnaburg, Louisville, Sandy Township, Nimishillen Township fire departments and the Tri-Division EMS all responded.

The fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $50,000 to $100,000 in content and the structure at about $50,000 without fire investigators knowing all of the details at this hour.
