Richland Deputies investigate body found on the side of the road in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, OH (WOIO) -

The Richland County Sheriff Department has confirmed that a male was found dead in Mansfield on Saturday.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, a witness noticed the victim leaning against a telephone pole as he was driving on Hull Road between Sites Road and Mansfield-Lucas Road.

After the witness called 911, both Richland Sheriff Deputies and Madison EMS arrived on scene at the same time.

A report says that the deceased male was lying on his side, with his shirt up and his pants down around his knees.

EMS said the victim showed no sign of life and had also suffered post-mortem injuries after discovering a mark on the victim's back.

Officers noticed muddy tire tracks near the victim, possibly indicating someone driving off.

The deceased male had no identification on him but investigators did discover an Ohio Direction Card in his back pants pocket and connected it to a woman currently incarcerated at the Richland County Jail, identified as the victim's live-in girlfriend.

A second witness, who lives in the neighborhood, says that he didn't notice or hear anything out of the ordinary Saturday night.

The deceased male was transported to Summit County for an autopsy and positive identification.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating the victim's death.

The Richland County Coroner has not released a cause of death.
