Van Zandt Co. shooting leaves one dead

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Wednesday night shooting that left one person dead.

Authorities received a call reporting shots fired on County Road 4715 just outside of Ben Wheeler at 10:40 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found one man dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Neighbors say they heard an argument and screaming before the shots were fired.

Deputies were on the scene for about four hours early Thursday morning, searching a white Nissan Altima and the home it was parked in front of. That car has since been towed away and the funeral home has retrieved the body.

Van Zandt County authorities say more information will be released Thursday morning. It is unknown whether possible suspects have been named or if anyone has been taken into custody in relation to the incident.
