Detroit (WOIO) - If two games are any indication, the Indians and Tigers are going to have some epic battles in 2014, certainly more competitive than 2013, when the Tigers took 15 of 19 from the Tribe. As it stands now, they're even at one apiece, after Detroit rallied to win Thursday's matinee, 7-5 at Comerica Park.
Michael Brantley had staked the Tribe to a 3-1 lead with his two-run single off Justin Verlander in the fifth, but Ian Kinsler answered immediately, taking Danny Salazar deep in the bottom half to put the Tigers on top to stay.
The Tigers added two more runs before the Indians rallied one final time, with Brantley launching a two-run home run in the 7th to cut it to 6-5, but that's all the Indians were going to get.
Salazar lasted just four and two-thirds, giving up five runs.
Verlander wasn't much better, going five innings and giving up three runs.
The Tribe returns home to host the Blue Jays on Friday.
