Hit and run driver still at large, remembering 5-year-old Israel Thornton

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A vigil was held Saturday, April 26, for 5-year-old Israel Thornton who was killed by a hit-and-run driver six months ago. Israel's father Theo Thornton has lots of painful questions.

"Who ever it is... how can they sleep at night?" Thornton questioned.

Israel was struck by a vehicle on October 25, 2013 at the corner of Denison and W. 37th as he walked to school. The passage of time has helped his mother Leah Simmons cope.

''I am now just starting to get back into things,"  said Simmons.

Police narrowed the suspect's vehicle down to either a light colored Dodge Journey, Kia Sorrento or Jeep Grand Cherokee with front end damage. But, after six months it seems unlikely the driver will come forward.

Israel's mother is determined to have the driver identified and asked, ''Somebody who knows who did it. Turn them in.''

Police continue to work the case and really need help from the public to bring a killer to justice and  to bring closure to a grieving family.
