KCBD Storm Chaser witnesses tornado touchdown in MS

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

KCBD Storm Chaser David Drummond is in Mississippi by the Alabama state line, chasing another storm tonight.

On Monday, he was in Mississippi when a tornado touched down and split into two tornadoes.

One of these came across the street right in front of him and demolished a church. It went on to do more damage in Columbus.

Drummond says the large number of trees in the area have made it a real mess right now.

In all of his years as a storm chaser, Drummond says he's never seen debris falling from the sky like it was yesterday.

The Mississippi terrain has made storm chasing more difficult Drummond, so he says he has to plan ahead.

"Over here, it's a lot different than out in West Texas... We don't have the great road options that you do up there," he said. "We don't have the visibility. We have hills and tall trees, so you really have to pick your spot where there's a road where you can see," Drummond said.
