WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A gas leak on South College Road forced the closure of the south bound lanes on the busy road Friday afternoon.

As of 5:12 p.m. Piedmont Natural Gas has repaired the damaged gas line, and all lanes of traffic have been reopened.

The leak was reported at 1054 S College Road, near the intersection of Maple Ave. According to dispatch a crew was placing a sign in the ground near Katy's Bar and Grille and hit the gas line.

Wilmington Fire Battalion Chief Sammy Flowers said the situation is stable at this time, and that there is no immediate danger to the public; however, traffic is backing up due to the lane closures.
