PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The man charged in connection to a theft of a car with a 3-year-old child inside was denied bond in a hearing Saturday morning.

Greenville Co. deputies said Perry Joe Anthony, 29, of Greenville, was charged with kidnapping, driving under suspension third offense, habitual offender, grand larceny and failure to stop for blue lights when he was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center late Friday night.

Authorities said Anthony is the suspect in an auto theft and kidnapping case that led to an all-day manhunt Friday. Deputies said a 3-year-old boy was abducted during the theft of an SUV on North Pleasantburg Drive after his mother left the car running while stepping into a bakery.

The child was later found in a neighborhood in Taylors and reunited with his mother.

Deputies said the SUV was dumped off of Saluda Dam Road on Crosswell Acres Court. Deputies searched for the suspect in that area, but called off the search around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Around 8 p.m. Friday, residents in the area said they spotted a man fitting the description of the suspect, prompting calls to 911.

Neighbors in the area said they spotted the man on the street and recognized him from the description on foxcarolina.com. The neighbors called 911, and the man was taken into custody.

They said the suspect was covered in mud as he was arrested by Pickens County law enforcement. Greenville County deputies later picked him up to interview him before charging him with the car theft and kidnapping.

Anthony appeared before a Greenville County magistrate on Saturday morning and was denied bond on the kidnapping charge. He will remain in jail until a circuit judge makes a decision on issuing bond.
