NORTHSIDE, OH (FOX19) -

Police identified the victim of a deadly shooting Sunday night in Northside as 41-year-old David Wheeldon.

A Cincinnati officer was responding to a call for breaking and entering at about 6:15 p.m. when he heard gunfire while driving through a stoplight at Chase and Hamilton avenues, Lt. Lisa Davis said.

The officer soon arrived at the scene, located in the 1600 block of Chase Avenue, and found Wheeldon on the sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said a suspect was taken into custody. Seven people witnessed the shooting and Davis said they were taken to police headquarters to assist in the investigation.

Police have not determined if the shooting was related to the breaking and entering the officer was initially responding to.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040.
