Kansas City, MO (WOIO) - Sloppy defense put the Indians in the hole early, and the bats came alive too late, as the Royals slowed down the Tribe on Tuesday night, 9-5 at Kauffman Stadium.
The Indians came in having won 9 of their previous 10 games, but stumbled in the third inning and allowed the Royals to jump on Corey Kluber for four runs. Asdrubal Cabrera's 11th error of the season opened the door in the inning, and after Carlos Santana bobbled a would-be double-play ball that would have ended the inning but instead allowed a run to score, the Royals tacked on two more on Billy Butler's single to right.
Eric Hosmer, Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas all homered for Kansas City.
The Indians trailed 6-0 before rallying in the 8th, with two runs coming on Jason Kipnis' double to right.
Carlos Santana, David Murphy and Cabrera drove in their other runs.
