CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Two weeks ago 19 Action News Reporter Dan DeRoos was invited into the Horizon Science Academy, a charter school, to do a story on their 100% graduation rate for seniors.

Little did we know just a week later, the FBI would raid their parent company. Let's be clear, this does not appear to have anything to do with the level of education at the Horizon schools.
Horizon Science Academy High School in Cleveland is a part of a bigger chain of charter schools headquartered in the Chicago area.

The school in Cleveland has an excellent record of graduating kids from urban areas and getting them to college.

They are run by a company called Concept Schools now being investigated by the FBI. That company just had 19 search warrants served by the Cleveland FBI office, on 19 locations in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.

One of the warrants was served at the concept school regional office here in Cleveland. When DeRoos went in there for a comment they denied to say anything.

Although the FBI has sealed the search warrants, a spokesperson has assured me this has nothing to do with the kids safety, education or the teachers. They're calling this a white collar crime investigation on the business side of the school.

We also contacted the Ohio Department of Education who gave us a letter they received by the man who runs Concept Schools, Sedat Duman. In it he explains to the State, that the FBI is looking at how they spent E-rate Technology grants which is Federal money given to schools and libraries to improve Internet access.

In the letter Duman says, "…they are auditing the funds dispersed to various schools to verify that work paid for with e-rate grants was completed as reported."
