Woman cries wolf about wheelchair robbery

Posted: Updated:
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

A woman is in trouble with police after she concocts a story about being robbed.

Mayfield Heights Police Officers sprung into action after a woman says that she was robbed at knife-point while riding in her motorized wheelchair on Mayfield Rd under the I-271 bridge on June 5.

On June 13, officers say that their investigation has determined that the incident never occurred.

Detectives questioned the 53-year-old woman who later admitted to fabricating the whole story.

The woman told police that her medication was lost and she needed a police report to replace the prescription.

Police are charging her with filing a false police report and officers say if mental health assistance is needed they are confident she will get the help she needs.

The department would like to assure the residents of Mayfield Heights that officers do their very best to provide a safe environment for them and their families.

We would also like to thank everyone that called in with their tips, as well as the media assistance.
