Father's Day on a budget

Posted: Updated:

Many of us are on a tight budget, and who doesn't want to save some money where they can?

So, be practical this Father's Day, and here's how you can do it on a budget-even last minute.

Have a family day. Dads sometimes miss out on spending quality time because of work. Bring everyone together to help with the food and planning.

"A cookout in the yard. The daughter and son come over and just bring their pets over so it's like a whole family in the yard," said Gloria Cooper.

Do what he loves to do, like fishing. Dad will appreciate you being there during his favorite activity.

"Just being with your kid, that would be fun. Just spending time with your kid," Tony Forte said.

Or, how about helping dad out with an unfinished project or chore? This may take time but it's well worth it for that.

For the tech-savvy fathers, fill his smartphone with app's that he would love. Games, hobbies, or favorite activities.

So, you can forget the cologne and fancy colored ties. On that special day, do things dad will cherish.

"Something from the heart that he'll appreciate. He's more sentimental like that. The thought that counts," said Scarlett White.
