Lorain standoff ends with one man dead

Posted: Updated:

A standoff with Lorain County Sheriff's Office and Lorain police ended with one man dead in the early morning hours Monday.

Torrey T. Hill had knocked on the door of a female who had an active Temporary Protection Order against him.  When she didn't respond he reportedly broke her car window and fled.

Deputies learned Hill had outstanding warrants.  Police and deputies responded to his home in an attempt to arrest him.  He would not surrender.

Several persons in the home reported Hill wasn't allowing them to leave, would not be taken alive, and was in possession of a firearm.

Lorain SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Team responded and shortly afterwards Hill released all of the persons in the residence.

After no response for several hours, baton rounds were fired through covered windows to allow unobstructed view of the home's interior.

Lorain SWAT then entered the home and discovered Hill on the second floor with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Lorain County Coroner's Office responded and is involved in the investigation.
