MENTOR, OH (WOIO) -

The sun is high, it's scorching hot, the humidity is soaring and some city pools aren't even open yet. So your air conditioner is your source of relief-if it's ready to work.

Toby Gardner works for H Jack Langer, and knows that summer means business.

"We call them no cools, and that's exactly what it is. Their house isn't cooling, nothing is happening," said Gardner.

Homeowner Jerry Briggs had H Jacks out today making sure he's not one of those no-cools.

"Especially that back room, we got six windows back there and that heats up quick," Briggs said.

Those regular service calls are a good idea/ They'll check your refrigerant levels and pressure, but what usually happens is you flip the A/C on and nothing happens.

"We get a lot of calls at the end of the day because people come home from work and they thought their A/C was working all day and they open their door at 4:30 and boom-it's 85 degrees. We get a lot of those," Gardner told us.

That is when you already have a big problem, a problem a $90 service call may have prevented.

"You can spend upward of $1000," said Gardner, on making repairs.

And some people for a variety of reasons, will not make that big money repair.

"Heat is a necessity, A/C is more of a luxury," said Gardner.
