Third-overall pick Blake Bortles has signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars announced the move on Twitter Wednesday morning.
"It's awesome," Bortles said, according to the team's website. "It's awesome to be able to kind of put this in the past. It's a once in a lifetime thing, signing your first contract. It's a cool feeling....
"It's definitely special," Bortles continued. "Me and (Jaguars director of public relations) Ryan (Robinson) were walking over here talking about it. This is a day you remember the rest of your life, the day you sign your first contract. It's definitely something that's cool. As soon as they called my name (in the draft), I was in. It was (done). But to officially get it done is definitely an awesome feeling."
Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said last month that the plan is for veteran Chad Henne to be the starter in 2014.
"We'd like to give Chad this whole year and go with Chad this year," Caldwell said. "Blake's got some development to do. We're going to be getting him ready, so come 2015 he's ready to compete for that spot."
With Bortles under contract, cornerback Justin Gilbert, the Browns' No. 8 pick, is now the highest draft selection that remains unsigned.
