MUNSON TWP, OH (WOIO) -

A local high school will have to spend the next few days cleaning up after Wednesday evening's storms took off a section of the gym's roof.

Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School in Munson Township had quite a scare after the tin roof and insulation blew off the school's gym, leaving nothing to stop the rain from pouring in.

The call came in to Munson Township Fire around 7:40 p.m. Chief Mark Lynn says the area was experiencing high winds at the time but it is unknown how fast.

The call started as a structural problem, then they later learned it was a roof issue. The few students who were in the school were moved to the cafeteria.

Lynn says that none of the students were in any danger. There were no injuries.

Additionally, the HVAC unit was damaged and the gas line ruptured. Within minutes, crews had the gas leak shut off and contained.

Maintenance crews are on the scene working to clean up but the gym could be a total loss.
