Kevin Honeycutt said, "Hold that Beamz up for a minute and tell them what it is. I'm going to be using it for the next two days in my Music and the Lost Learner Hands-on Workshops. Just imagine kids playing with this and all the different sounds they will be able to make. I can get kids started immediately. They don't have to be afraid, they can just jump right in and start making music. I'm loving the Beamz because you don't have to be Juilliard trained to start. You can just start! Beamz will help to build huge onramps for learning. Huge, safe onramps for teachers and kids!"
The Beamz booth was busy with visitors eager to see the Beamz in action first hand and discuss its applications and user benefits. Spectronics is Australia's largest supplier of special needs software and assistive technologies. We prefer to think of our range as "inclusive learning technologies," being those technologies which foster real success and real inclusion in educational or community-based settings. Our team is made up of staff from teaching, speech pathology, occupational therapy, and technical backgrounds, and we work closely with a wide network of professionals and technology users – reflecting our commitment to providing quality support to both education and disability groups throughout Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
Spectronics was founded in Brisbane in 1985 by Michael O'Leary, Managing Director of Spectronics. At the time, Michael was working as an occupational therapist, applying technology options to assist people with cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury to achieve their goals. He was frustrated by the limited availability in Australia of the many new technologies emerging overseas. O'Leary saw the establishment of a company such as Spectronics as a means of improving the situation. Spectronics has grown significantly, and now employs 16 staff to meet the demand of the Australasian public for special needs technologies developed within Australia, New Zealand and around the globe. Because of this demand, Spectronics now supplies over 1500 different products.
