CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Catholic Charities helped make the dreams of 30 refugees from across the globe come true.

All were sworn in as U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony on Friday. This took place at St. Augustine Towers on Detroit Avenue.

Federal Judge Christopher Boyko presided over the event, which honored World Refugee Day.

World Refugee day is observed each year to acknowledge the extreme challenges faced by individuals who are forcibly displaced from their homes.

Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services resettles approximately 300 refugees each year in the Cleveland area.

The agencies work with the refugees to resettle and then become citizens after they have been in the United States for at least five years.
