Indians recall Pestano, send down McAllister

Posted: Updated:

Cleveland (WOIO) - The Indians have recalled RHP Vinnie Pestano, and optioned RHP Zach McAllister to Columbus.

The upcoming schedule allows the Tribe to go without a fifth starter until next month, so this move allows Terry Francona to bolster his bullpen.

Pestano, 29, has spent most of the 2014 season at Triple-A Columbus, going 2-3 with a 1.78ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Clippers (25.1IP, 18H, 7R/5ER, 7BB, 32K, .198AVG). He has not allowed a run over his last 13 appearances with the Clippers (13.0IP, 7H, 2BB, 12K) dating back to May 18.  He has held right-handed hitters to a .125 (7-56) average against during his time in Columbus and limited batters to a .175 (7-40) mark with runners on base.  He opened the season with Cleveland before being optioned to Columbus on April 9, appearing in 3 games (2.2IP, 8H, 6R/4ER).
