Damage reported after storms rip through Gaston Co

Posted: Updated:
GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

An 87-year-old woman says she had quite the scare Friday when a storm ripped through Gaston County causing a large tree to fall on her house.

Judy Bowen told WBTV that she was taking a nap in a room near the middle of her house on South Gaston Street in Dallas just before 4 p.m. when she heard what sounded like an explosion.

"All of a sudden I heard and explosion, and I didn't know where it was coming from so I started looking around outside. And this was the last place I looked… on the porch," Bowen said.

The tree, which took down some power lines when it fell, covered that porch and one whole side of Bowen's home.

Bowen said she has lived in the house for 48 years, and has never seen anything like this.

Bowen's home wasn't the only one reportedly damaged in Dallas during Friday's storms.

Another large tree also fell, hitting an apartment on South Maple Street during the storm.

No one was injured in either incident.

As of Friday afternoon, officials had not released a damage estimate at either location.
