MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - A federal drug bust put two men behind bars, but drugs are not the only reason authorities got involved.

It is a dangerous and daring crime with the promise of big bucks by robbing big time drug dealers with stash houses. However, it is all made up by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents setting up stings across the country in an effort to get criminals with guns off the streets.

Christopher Williams and Verdell Pegues were caught in a sting set up by ATF agents with the help of undercover Shelby County sheriff's deputies investigating robbery suspects who target drug dealers.

Undercover investigators met with Pegues and Williams over the past few weeks to discuss a home invasion-style robbery. Agents told the suspects about a house that would have 10 to 12 kilograms of cocaine. They said it would be guarded by armed two men.

Pegues and Williams were asked if they were up for it, and they said, "this is what we do."

Undercover agents met Pegues and Williams at a gas station on Sycamore View Road. When Pegues and Williams arrived at the gas station, the undercover officer asked if they had their straps or firearms. The two said yes.

Williams and Pegues opened their trunk and pulled out two handguns wrapped in a black bandana.

The agents walked Williams and Pegues over to a nearby storage unit where a rental car was supposed to pull off the robbery. Agents took down both men and later discovered the handguns were stolen.

Pegues and Williams are charged with conspiracy to commit a felony possession of a controlled substance, aggravated robbery, and possession of a firearm to commit a dangerous felony.
