SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The winner of the 2014 House for Hope thought her husband was playing a joke on her when she got the call on Monday afternoon from KSLA News 12's Doug Warner. "I thought that this was a joke from my husband, and my brother, because they love doing that kind of thing," says Sabra Collier. "I didn't know what to think."

Collier's name was drawn on KSLA News 12 at 6 from among the many who reserved $100 tickets for a chance to win the 2,040 square foot house in Shreveport's Provenance subdivision.

The home was built by local builder Justin Sevier of Vintage Construction Group, LLC and is valued at $340,000.

The state-of-the art kitchen boasts natural stone countertops and stainless steel appliances, and the master suite has a custom walk-in closet, a beautiful bathroom with two vanities, and a separate shower. But Collier's favorite feature of the 3 bedroom, 3 bath home is the master bath itself. "The bathtub has this gadget on the wall, which I've never seen before, and you sync your phone and you turn your music on and the water vibrates to the bass of the music," Collier explains.

It's now hers, all because she reserved a $100 ticket - and not just for a chance to win. "I do it because I want to help," Collier explains, "because it's such a beautiful organization. I don't think I am ever going to win. I'm sure no one else does, either. We just do it to help our own city."

Proceeds from the House for Hope are used by Community Renewal International to build Friendship Houses. A Community Renewal Friendship House is a haven of hope in low-income, high-crime neighborhoods. Like a community center in a home, a Friendship House is a place for after-school education programs, character building, service projects, GED courses, tutoring, computer training, art and music lessons, family nights and much more.

The house is lived in by a Community Coordinator employed by CRI and their family, who not only help the neighborhood - they become a part of it. House for Hope has built a Friendship House in the Queensborough neighborhood, and will next be building in the Highland neighborhood.

Sabra Collier and the Highland neighborhood benefiting from the next Friendship House aren't the only winners coming out of this year's House for Hope drawing. Cleveland Lane of Shreveport won a 50 inch flat screen television. Carol Marsala of Shreveport won a microsoft surface tablet.

Janet Borseth of Shreveport gets to go on a $500 shopping spree with a visa gift card worth $500, and Eveline Cooley of Shreveport won a gas grill.
